The Client

Located in France, the client is a University researcher working in financial research and database collation. They needed a partner to help collect financial information from companies that operated in the 1950s, all of which was printed in old, non-editable books. This meant:

• Working with more than 100 books in non-PDF, non-editable format
• Extracting data for more than 1,000 companies from these books
• Ensuring high-quality and accuracy in these extractions without a digital record to check against

Challenges

Due to the nature of the source data, there were several challenges faced by the O2I team in completing this project, which included -

• The volume of companies was stored in over 100 books, in a format not compatible with modern data extraction and review software
• The data was in various European languages and had to be entered manually to ensure accuracy
• There was no existing system or methodology for placement of the data in the assignment

The Solution

The Outsource2india team took the following approach to the project to ensure it was completed accurately within the promised timeframe -

• Before starting in earnest, an indexing system was developed in conjunction with the client to ensure easier and streamlined data extraction
• Manual entry was performed for all data because of the various languages it was presented in. This meant careful and meticulous data entry processes throughout the project
• Numerous levels of quality checks were implemented to ensure information was accurate and not duplicated or overwritten

The Results
